ABOUT ALEJNA
Communications for clients rooted in social impact, purpose and intersectional environmental justice.

Hi! I’m Alejna - a storyteller, comms pro and intersectional environmentalist. A creative writer at heart, I believe in the motivational power of a captivating story and can find the foundation for one anywhere I look.
I have 9.5 years of experience in my pocket, during which I've worked across CPG, food & beverage, travel & hospitality, nonprofit, and retail sectors. And thanks to clients big and small, I have experience designing and managing projects for any budget. I specialize in strategy development, executive visibility, copywriting, and media relations, but I'm also a quick learner and a team player, so I enjoy taking on new challenges and working outside of my comfort zone.
I was laid off in May 2020 due to COVID-19 downsizing and used that time to re-examine how I wanted to direct my career. I decided to commit to passion over position and embarked on a freelance journey to work with purpose-forward brands. In late 2020, I launched a global campaign for thankyou, an Australian social enterprise fighting extreme poverty, petitioning two of the world's largest CPG companies to make and distribute thankyou's products without purchasing the company - flipping the process for companies accustomed to buying brands. Check out that project here.
Now, I am sharing my strategic communications expertise with businesses rooted in social impact, purpose, and intersectional environmental justice at Porter Novelli, a global purpose communications consultancy. I work as an extension of my clients' sustainability teams, which has integrated me into the strategy side of corporate responsibility. From developing a CSR program for a startup healthcare company to engaging stakeholders on more sustainable procurement practices for a major CPG, I've learned strong communication skills are crucial to driving CR programs. My aspiration is to channel this experience into a CR team for a company that mirrors my values by fighting for a more sustainable, equitable, and just world.
In my spare time, I work with Sustainable Jersey City, a local nonprofit working to make my city - Jersey City, NJ - a more sustainable and resilient place to live and work. And when I'm not online, I can usually be found lost in a book or on a mountain in Maine.
